Rt Rev Jerome Birnbaum AKA "Jerome Peartree"

Teacher, Mentor, Bishop, Priest, Friend

Others could have shown where the doors are and opened them, but you showed how to find doors where we didn't know there were doors, and open those doors!

Others could have lit a lamp, but you taught how to make a lamp and light it!

Others could have answered questions, but you taught how to find answers.

Others could have offered a standard course of study, but you launched people on a lifelong quest.

A diploma or ordination from others is a completion.  The one from you was only the beginning.

Thank you - for showing how to find the doors and how to light the lights.

Blessed Be, Jerome!

As of April 23, 2007, the United States Department of Veterans' Affairs settled a suit against them on the issue of the Pentacle being allowed as a symbol of faith on veterans' memorial markers.  As a result, Jerome's marker, shown above, is one of the first markers issued with the Pentacle..

In addition to that long-delayed honor from the country he served, this page includes three additional symbols in his honor.  One Pentacle is in honor of his military service to his country (US Army, Korean War), one Pentacle is in honor of his service to his community (a career as a New York City teacher), and a Chalice of Light is in honor of all that he did for so many as Priest, Bishop, Mentor and friend for Wiccans, Pagans, and so many others.
